Ancient Grain Grits: Basic Recipe

Artisan food doesn’t have to be complicated. If you can boil water then consider yourself an ancient grain grits expert in the kitchen. It only takes twelve minutes to impress your foodie friends and here’s how to do it.

We get it, trying something new is hard. But, what if we made it easy? Like…boiling water easy. That is exactly what you will find with our Gruff Ancient Grain Grits.

This basic recipe doesn’t take very long to cook so you can go on to do the rest of the awesome that your day holds. How much time does it take? 12 minutes, that’s it. You can start the pot of grits and scroll social before the kids get home, wipe down the counters from breakfast or simply enjoy an extra snuggle with your favorite tiny human.

Here’s how to do it.

  • 1 Cup Gruff Ancient Grain Grits

  • 1 1/4 Cup Water

  • Pinch of Salt

  • Pat of Butter

Bring water to a boil. Stir in Gruff Ancient Grain Grits, cover and set heat to LOW. Start a 12 minutes timer. At 6 minutes, remove lid and stir. Replace the lid and let simmer on LOW for the remainder of the time. Remove from heat and add butter.

While this is ready to eat as is, we recommend letting it rest covered for a couple more minutes for best results. Add a pinch of salt and a pat of butter for a simple snack or get elaborate with one of our Gruff recipes fit for any gritogether.
